Who am I?
As an African American woman, I am constantly exploring my identity as a complex individual. I have many roles, including poet, scholar, educator, and mother. It is often said that Black women are the backbone of our society and communities. This is true for me personally – I have always been proud of my race and enjoy celebrating the unique history and culture that comes with it.
The Power of Being Complicated
Being complicated means embracing all aspects of my identity. While it may be difficult to juggle multiple roles in life, the beauty lies in having the strength to do so. As a poet, I write stories that tell tales of struggle and joy while also documenting events from the past and present. As a scholar, I am curious about learning new things and expanding my knowledge by researching topics related to social justice issues. As an educator, I strive to instill values in young minds so they can become active citizens in their own right. And as a mother, I want to raise strong children who understand the importance of standing up for what’s right and never backing down from adversity.
My Future is Bright
As an African American woman living in today’s world, it can be easy to get caught up in the negative news headlines or feel overwhelmed by everyday struggles. But when I look ahead at what lies ahead for me, I feel confident that my future is bright despite any obstacles that may come my way. To remain focused on this positive outlook requires both courage and resilience – two qualities that are essential for success no matter what path you choose to take in life.
As an African American woman living today’s world, there are many identities and roles that make up who I am – poet, scholar, educator, mother – but what remains constant is my pride in being part of such a resilient group of people whose contributions cannot be ignored or forgotten. The power lies within each one of us to shape our own destinies and create a better future for ourselves and those around us by embracing our complexity instead of shying away from it. So let’s continue to break down barriers together as we move forward into a brighter tomorrow!
